First discovered in 1691 on Saint Anthony's day, this is how the city got its name. But the actual founding took place 27 years later in 1718 by Father Antonio Olivares.
San Antonio held a heroic role in the history of the independence of Texas, at the Alamo where 189 liberators held the siege of the mission against 4,000 Mexican troops during 13 days. And still today, the "Remember Alamo" rallying cry is as clear as can be to mean something like: Don't mess with Texas. Visit some historical sites like the La Villita settlement, the Jose Antonio Navarro State Historical Park, the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and Fort Sam Houston.
How many ghosts stay in the San Antonio River Walk area. Marin Leal who is an expert in paranormal phenomena says that there are over 100! The good news is that they will not bother you, since they seem to only manifest themselves to cameras loaded with 800 ASA films. But take your camera, you never know what you'll get.
San Antonio is renown for its River Walk along the Yuanaguana River, and it is now accessible to the disabled. I mean accessible to everyone who can find his way through the crowd. Yes, it is very crowded!
Other places of interest to see absolutely: The San Antonio Museum of Arts (SAMA) with its American Indian, European antiquities, Asian art and Contemporary collections.
